The ligatures themselves are rubber bands and could potentially stain because they re porous. At blue ridge orthodontics we only use the best quality material for all of our realignment hardware. Ceramic braces tend to be less durable than metal braces. The elastics themselves don t show up all on the front and constant visits will replace the old bands with new clear ones.

Invisible ceramic clear braces also known as invisible braces clear and ceramic braces function like traditional braces but with less obvious brackets. Though they are connected by a thin metal wire the brackets blend with the natural color of your teeth so they are more discreet than traditional braces. Light elastic bands especially clear or white often look great at first but then due to exposure to foods and beverages become stained and visually detracting. However ceramic braces do use clear plastic bands called ligatures to hold the wire in place.

Ceramic braces also take more time to align teeth and may cause discomfort for people with sensitive mouths as ceramic material can irritate the inner lip. This process requires the dentist to fit the braces using a metal archwire and an elastic band which holds every single tooth. Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces in terms of structure but they re less noticeable because they use clear or tooth colored brackets rather than gray or metallic colored components. Ceramic appliances use essentially the same components as metal braces and achieve much the same results.

Ceramic porcelain is prone to chipping and cracking which make them less desirable for athletes who compete in contact sports. The difference is that the material used for the brackets is a clear or tooth colored ceramic. This means the braces blend in with the teeth and are much less obvious from a distance. Today s ceramic braces do not have that same problem and will be able to stay the same color throughout your treatment.

Instead of metal brackets ceramic braces use white or clear ligatures to keep the braces in place. Patients with ceramic braces tend to choose tooth colored or clear bands so to match or blend in with the overall look of their braces.
